Corrupt User Account?

after getting my replacement laptop as stated in another thread, i updated to 10.5.4, the system hung so i powered it off and now when I turn it back on it asks for a password i don't have, so i pressed enter and the sequence i got was:

Blue Screen
Grey Screen
Blue Screen
Login Window

is there a way to fix this without re-installing?

Try resetting the pram:

If that doesn't help, take it back to the apple store.
