Hey guys I was just wondering your thoughts on if there would be a high res 15in mbp? I really prefer the size of the 15in over the 17 but i must admit that the high res screen makes me a bit jealous! I'm not sure if there are any technical limitation as to why you can't have a hi res screen in the smaller size, or if it's something that apple just hasn't gotten around to? i'm still about a year away from updating... but i was just curious...Thanks!

Dell has had 15" laptops with 1920x1200 screens for quite a while so I imagine it will offered with the next MBP update.
I can't imagine a 15.4" 1920x1200 screen. I've seen a MBP modded to have it, and I can't read the menu bar at the top.
Still, though, a 15.4" 1680x1050 or even 1920x1200 hi-res option might render the 17" obsolete. I think Apple wants to keep selling the bigger model, so I wouldn't expect a resolution bump until/unless 1920x1200 becomes standard on the 17" model.

1920 x 1200 in a 15" laptop is pretty small, too small for my tastes I believe (I won't know until I see it), but 1680 x 1050 wouldn't be bad for the 15" MBP.
It seems that Hi-Resolution in 15" is overkill for eyes. Furthermore, this in an option for the more expensive MBP 17".
And what good is that going to do for people who don't want to lug around a massive 17" schlepptop?
A 15" laptop is quite huge already IMHO (typing this on a 12" PowerBook).
Sorry, a 17" screen is just too big.
It seems people are basically saying if you want a 15" hi-res (full 1080p HD capable) display - go buy a DELL.

I'm not saying this is for everyone. I understand there are plenty people who have issues with small text.
But there are also very many who don't. And I can't see why Apple wouldn't offer a built-to-order option. Or at least a third-party add-on reseller. Colorware is offering color choices, why doesn't anyone offer screen choices?

It's all about money. Apple's logic is simple: Do you want laptop with Hi-Resolution? OK, we have one. It's called MBP 17". Go, buy and enjoy...

That's where resolution independence will come in.
I don't think we'll see a high-res 15" MacBook Pro until Snow Leopard is out.
In what world is it a gimmick? If you do any work which benefits from increased real estate on a screen, a higher resolution is a god send.
OS X offers many opportunities to increase icon size, font size and menu size, irrespective of resolution and these options will only get better as full resolution independence is adopted.
It's not for everyone, that's for sure, but to dismiss it for everyone because you don't want it is selfish.
There's people - I for one - who would happily purchase a 15" MBP pro with full HD for the price of the same spec'd 17" model. If it's a money issue - as some claim - then offer it as BTO at a premium and leave the choice to the customers.

But it's difficult for many people to see text at 1920x1200 on a 15" screen.
Increase font size, and once resolution independence gets fully implemented and functional (i.e. once Snow Leopard is released) it won't be an issue at all. Text might even appear smoother since there is a higher DPI.
I think they'll give the 15" 1680x1050, but they'll probably also keep it on the 17" and have 1920x1200 remain an upgrade.
Best not to get your hopes up, but I can't see them keeping 1440x900 much longer.
I'm more concerned with the 15", and yes, I'd agree 1440x900 will be replaced either next update (more likely I would think, because of the fact that it's supposed to be a big update) or the update after that.

I'd really like to see 1920x1200 on the 15", but I doubt it'll happen. I'm hoping for the 1650x1050, though . . . Apple is just really behind on the MBP specs / features in general. I'm not quite sure why people are buying now, as it's both a waste of money (price for performance) and lacking features competitors offer standard (resolution / card readers).
