website browsing history

Hi. Apologies if this is posted in the wrong place but I thought you guys could help. I have played games on the mousebreaker website a few times but no matter what I do to delete my web history it always remembers me when I go back. How? What can I do to delete my history?

I use Firefox3 and have all privacy settings so that it clears my data when i close FF, clears cookies when i close and doesn't store history.

Please help

Thanks,
john

The memory may be on their side rather than your own. They could keep track of your IP address.

thanks for the reply. I moved address and at my new house it remembered me. Does my IP address move with me? Can they remember my computer even if I move house?

no your IP address is unique to where your internet comes in, your modem.
If the houses are close then one could share the single internet connection through all those houses via a router. Although that is likely against the TOS and it is unlikely this is happening.

Im confused though, you went to another building and logged on with a different computer (or the same computer?) and it knew who you were?

If you are on a different IP (likely unique to the building) and a different computer there is NO WAY the site can remember who you are. If you are on the same computer then it is possible that the site is using session data or more likely cookies to remember you. You need to be a little more specific...

Hi thanks again for the replies. I moved 4 miles across town but still using the same macbook. I have tried deleting my cookies (but FF is set delete these anyway when i close it) but it still remembers that I have played and I can continue the game from where i left off. The game on the website states that they store a cookie on your computer. But where???
I have never noticed any other website remember me.

My only other thought is that it might be Firefox remembering a login, which would be separate from cookies. It's on the Security tab of the Preferences. Seems weird though. I couldn't even get the web site in question to come up so I can't see what they're doing.

No, your IP address won't follow you, so that rules out that possibility. It's most commonly kept in cookies. Not sure if you've tried deleting those. With FF3 you go to Preferences > Privacy > Show Cookies > Remove All and that will clear them up. You can also delete them by domain name so you can search out that site there and delete just those.
