A Wifi switch App possible
I don't know what kind of access to the hardware developers have so I have a possibly stupid question:
Is it possible to make a Wifi switch app that will, when tapped turn the Wifi on/off and maybe even alter the app icon to reflect the current state? Secondarily, if yes, are there any iPhone App developers that would be willing to build this for a bounty?

it's annoying when I like to turn it on and off regularly when out on the town.
If I know there's wifi around i want it on but if its not i will keep it off. And my question wasn't asking for validation of the usefulness of this feature, it was asking if it was possible. And if so, how much would it cost for a developer to make it (in terms of hours)

You have to wait for the Settings window to load which take 5-6 seconds sometimes. No, that's not a long time, but wouldn't a 1 second option be better than waitng 6? |

What I would like to see, is an application like this, but similar to a 7 day programmable thermostat.
Select WiFi, then be able to select up to maybe 6 on or off times, such as: MON-THU ON -> 18:00 OFF -> 01:00 ON -> 05:30 OFF -> 07:00 FRI-SUN ON Then have one for Bluetooth. Allow each individual day to be selected, and have up to 6 times that can be on/off. This would allow you to setup your standard schedule, which for me, would be no WiFi while at work, Bluetooth only when in the car, and have WiFi on while at home, or on the go. Once the app icon was selected, on that main page, there could be some toggles to turn on WiFi and Bluetooth similar to settings, but so that you do not have to wait for the settings screen to load... Sounds like an application I would use to help conserve battery life. |

All well and dandy, but still isn't possible via the SDK. Maybe post in the hacks forum or on jailbreak sites.

So I assume the SDK does not allow access to turning the radios off then?

It doesn't let the developers alter any user settings at all. We can't even set the wallpaper.

So a brightness switch would not be possible as well?
.......... so based on the Wifi switch not being possible I take it a shortcut to the brightness is not going to happen either? I find I'm into the brightness more than 6 times a day because of different lighting environments. Yes it's a little tedious, a hot switch would be nice.

I don't see the need for this since in Settings, you can just shut WiFi off in a second.
