How do I view cache or view evidence of pr0n viewed on my phone if History deleted?

Someone not so clever left a Safari webpage up and I hit the "back" button and found a Google search for pr0n. They covered their tracks and deleted the History, but perhaps not the cache. How do I dig into the phone further to see what precisely was viewed?

1) Jailbreak the iphone
2) install openssh and a terminal app via Installer
3) install macfuse and sshfs
4) open sshfs application
5) open terminal app on iphone
6) on iphone type command: ifconfig and press enter
7) on iphone look through output for an IP that looks like a LAN IP (usually something like 192.168.1.xxx or 10.0.1.xxx) and write it down
8) Press home button on iphone to exit terminal program
9) On mac type in the IP you wrote down in the sshfs server field, for user type: root and for directory specify: / then press OK
10) Now you'll need to google: <your iphone firmware version here> root password and write down the root password
11) sshfs should be asking you for the root password by now so type in the password you just wrote down and click ok
12) you should now see in finder a new mount whose name is the IP of the iphone, double click it
13) Congrats, you can now browse the iphone's hard drive contents and look for any evidence of pr0n

If sshfs doesn't accept the root password...
1) On mac goto Macintosh HD>Applications>Utilities>Terminal and open Terminal
2) type: ssh root@<iphone's IP> and press enter
3) You should be presented with a question about the identity of the host, type: yes and press enter
4) type in the root password you wrote down earlier and press enter (no characters will be displayed as you type the password, this is normal)
5) You should now be at a prompt with a # sign, type: exit and press enter
6) Press cmd+q to exit Terminal
7) Try remounting your iphone using the sshfs instructions above, it should now work

ok so:

first, make a new page,
then close the old page with the traces.
then clean the history within safari. (this is needed so that if u search in google it wont come up)

then go to settings>safari

and clear the history, cookies and cache.

done.

OP's Follow-Up to Responses...

Good grief, people. If it makes anyone happy, my screen name was the first thing that came to mind. I wanted a question answered quickly and wasting time with a cutesy or more descriptive name doesn't matter to me. And I'm not a mom, I'm searching for someone else's usage because the TYPE of pr0n matters to me. Finally, I asked what I wanted to know... not how to hide pr0n, how to find it. I had already done my homework before requesting help. I dug through the internet and learned all about how to hide it... opening new pages, software to hide it behind calculators, in video and music files, etc etc. I probably know more than you on this. That's how I knew to call it pr0n in the first place.

A HUGE shout out to John Musbach. He's the only one who actually took my question seriously. My problem is that I don't want to jailbreak my phone, so I guess I'm relegated to the "Back" button only....??? I know in my PC how to search for cookies and the cache and how to look for the drop-down URL list. But the iPhone is so GUI oriented that I don't know how to get around. Incidentally, I know that cookies are turned on on the phone. I dbl-checked this AM.

But to "tweaks": thanks for the laugh. That was pretty funny. (See, I do have a sense of humor, but let's all admit it... there are many types of pr0n out there... soft porn, who cares? I myself have peeked while flipping cable channels... but there are lots of types and I'll just leave it at that.)

If you're spying on someone's internet usage but are unable to actually talk to them about it or trust them then you shouldn't be letting them use your iphone or spying in theirs--and you shouldn't be in a relationship.

Forget about the iphone and see a therapist about your communication and trust issues. Judging from your post you clearly need one.

Ouch! Actually, I want to thank you for making that point. I think it's very likely that my paranoia is getting the better of me. But I'd also ask you to cut me a break. First of all, I found the pr0n being hidden on the phone accidentally, so I didn't start the hiding. So, I think it's reasonable to have the first reaction of "gosh, what exactly was looked at?" To want to probe a little further is not a crime nor is it a reflection of a relationship in dire straits.

It may be in the end, when I'm less upset/concerned about this (and it's a different "time of the month") that your comments turn out to be the most helpful. So, I'll take your comments in the best of light, because there is a degree of wisdom in there, albeit cloaked in a seemingly heavy coat of judgement and disgust.

When I'm done browsing porn, I just clear my history, make a new page, close the old page. Then the next time Safari is launched, there's no history and there's no back button to press

The therapist comment may have been a bit harsh. Your initial post gave a different impression than this one. I still think you should talk to him about this though(before too much snooping!) keeping in mind that most guys will view these types of pages from time to time. It's just some are more sophiticated about hiding it than others--not that it *should* necessarily be hidden. Unless we're talking about illegal material, which would be a different situation entirely.

agreed, unless he's looking at something illegal, then it shouldnt be anything to worry about. it doesnt matter whether guys are in a relationship or not, they are still going to look at "pr0n" from time to time, its just the way we are and not a reflection of our feelings about our significant other.

A genuine thank you. I'd humbly suggest that you might take a beat and consider softening the message next time--a little benefit of the doubt. There are actual people at the other end of the computer screen. [off my hormonal soapbox now. blech!] In my original message, I didn't think it mattered it to go into mushy-gushy details to give you a picture of me. I simply wanted an answer, so I stuck to my point. However, your input has offered therapeutic value and though unexpected, was a piece of what I needed. Although, there's always a part of me that would feel a little better to know for sure it was soft pr0n and not whips/chains, opposite sexuality or fetish stuff... even though deep down I know my hormonal brain is almost surely getting the better of me.

In fact, you know, I'm sure I'd have done the same thing... who wants to be caught having peeked at pr0n or other inocuously similar things. It's embarrassing and our society teaches us sexuality is something to be ashamed about. But hiding it is just that: hiding. And it is that which feeds that seed of doubt, by its very nature.

More posts still welcome!
There are surely others out there that will fit in these shoes one day and will search for assistance.

Unfortunately you can't view cookies/cache stored on the iPhone without jailbreaking it, in the future you could track the internet usage by friends by setting up a proxy that logs all access and configuring the iphone to send all internet traffic through that but is it really worth the trouble? (and what if your friend found out you were trying to monitor his/her online actions?)

Aye... without jailbreaking the phone your options are limited. Clearing history and opening new page and closing it behind you is about as close as you can get to being clean.

Here's a thought... if you know what the search phrase they used you could simply try doing a search for it yourself. Aside from that there's not much else you can do currently.

I understand how difficult talking about something like that can be, but honestly unless he is searching for child pr0n I don't think it is a big deal or even a reflection upon any relationship that may or may not exist between the two of you. Just because someone may look at something doesn't always mean that is what they want IRL. What matters most is how the two of you connect. This paranoia certainly implies the connection might not be as strong as it used to be. Try trusting in your feelings and see what you can do to try and repair that. How would you feel if they were to do the same to you (whether founded in truth or fiction?) Personally, I've been in that situation and it was not true. Nothing I could say or do would convince her otherwise till she decided I was simply lying and broke off the engagement. So, I honestly ask you to take a look at your feelings, relationship, and your actions and try to find a way of repairing the rift rather than ripping it asunder. Best of luck... sorry there's not much more technically you can do.

Except for jailbreaking there is no way to see the cache. You can clear it but not view it.

To Moomba: Actually, I do know... because it was inocuous, it supported the argument that barkomatic made that "most guys will view these types of pages from time to time." I'm sorry that things didn't work out in your engagement, Moomba. Thank you for recognizing how difficult it is to start this discussion. After everyone's helpful advice, I'm convinced that this isn't where the discussion needs to start, in fact, it probably won't happen at all. I'm in a different place today after all of your support. I think it's really helpful to let off a little steam anonymously. I suppose everyone overreacts on occasion and I've learned over the years that it's probably more productive to "TAKE 5" (okay, in this case 24hrs) and address relationship issues without the initial (over)reaction. This discussion has brought clarity to me and spells it out that I am in need of a some affirmation in this area.

To Flhusky: From what I've read on other sites, your provider probably doesn't do this.

To other posters: thanks for chiming in to confirm... and give me a chuckle. The more I hear others say it's "the norm" and to make jokes about it, the less concerned I am. This isn't something I talk with about with friends and family, so I don't have a lot of knowledge on this subject to draw upon. Better communication is definitely in order. It's on the agenda and I'm grateful for the opportunity to have vented and purged. Here's to moving on and most definitely--up! Drinks all around for taking the time to help your fellow man... or <ahem> WOman.
