iBook: Firewire to TV

Right behind you
I've got a firewire/DV cable that came with a camcorder. I thought I could put it to good use by pluggin it into the TV. I want to use my TV as an external display for my iBook.

I know the best way is to buy a adapter from Apple, but I'm cheap! Is this setup gonna work?

Once again: iBook with Firewire cable and DV end thingy (lol). The DV end is like a rectangle with a chunk cut out on the bottom.

Firewire is not video. Firewire is data.

Your TV can't decode a Firewire data stream, so you'd need a Digital/Analog video converter like a Canopus or Datavideo box which will cost you $150 - $300 and up. And then, it will only work for output from compatible video programs, AFAIK it will not work for displaying the OSX desktop.
