Syncing individual contacts from Outlook

Can you add individual contacts from Outlook to IPhone Contacts or are you stuck with syncing all contacts every time you sync. I have my wife’s contact information set up on IPhone with her picture and a distinctive ringtone. However, when I periodically sync from Outlook it replaces my IPhone contact with what was on my Outlook, so I have to go into her contact and edit it. Have you run into this?
