Newbie here.

Is it normal for iTunes on a brand new iMac (2.8/4gb/750gb) choke when importing a biggish (300gb) mp3 library?

I've tried three times and iTunes freezes after importing only 50~60gb. Force quit didn't work and I've had to do a hard restart twice. The last time I tried spoon feeding it folder by folder but with the same result.

Is this an iTunes thing? Hardware? Or something more obvious?

when you go folder by folder, does it freeze at the same spot? could be a corrupted file...

Try skipping that file and moving the rest.

I've had trouble moving my music folder en masse before too. I Usually go in small clumps of music folder

Thanks maestrocasa. It freezes on a different file and different folder each time. It's certainly possible there's more than one corrupt file hiding in there though. I'll delete them and try again.

If that's what's causing the problem, that would be great news. I'm more worried that this fancy new computer I got just ain't up to it.

If you take it to an apple store and ask them they will move all of your music for you. Let them figure it out😛.
