It really all depends. Sometimes the geniuses are all booked up or not. But you can easily make an appointment online. You can go to the store but it will be by chance, when i went to replace mine they happened to be available. But might as well make an appointment.

So I will have to talk to a genius then, and not just a sales hipster...alright, thanks

No, you don't need an appointment, but it saves time. You'll have to make one once you get there.

You can book one online through the Apple Store's website. Just search for the store you're planning on going to, and make a reservation.

Just wondering, do the Apple store's or carrier stores in countries with no Apple stores replace you with a new in the box iPhone or refurbs in those white boxes?

YES!!!!

You have to go to the Genius Bar for any swaps, and if you don't make an appointment online, the wait could be long.

A sales person cannot make the swap for you.

Look at the appt. book online. You may have a little wait as a walk in but they are pretty quick. Plus while you wait you can play on all the cool stuff. Go on a monday during school hours. There wont be all those mullet headed high school kids.

You definitely need an appt. I had an appointment for a problem with my 3g, they replaced it with another defective phone, and I needed to have a new appt. to replace that one, but fortunately they gave me an appt. the same evening.

If you're in NYC, don't waste your time going to the store...you will not get an appointment the same day. The Bar is booked solid, days in advance. That said, I have gotten appointments the same day by using the online reservation page. If people cancel, the slot becomes open immediately online.

it all depends on the store. ive exchanged my phone twice, both times i just went to see a sales associate instead of going to the genius bar. both times ive been able to exchange with no problems.
