More iPod battery coverage

For some bizarre reason loads of the UK media picked up that really old iPod battery replacement story yesterday, such as Channel 4, The Times and ZDNet. The Channel 4 broadcast version also showed clips from Mac Expo of the iPod mini even though they didn't acctually talk about it, and it also had people moaning about how long it takes for stuff to come out here after the US, which is weird for a news show. The worrying thing about articles like these is if people reading them then write-off the iPod when they're thinking about buying it. For example, in The Times buyer's guide they review alternate players to the iPod, saying many people are looking at them because of battery problems, even though the players they review seem unlikely to have replacable batteries. However it could just be there excuse to acctually bother reviewing MP3 players when everyone knows that the iPod is the best.

yeah but

The point being made on Channel 4 was there is no replacement for the battery currently available in the UK, and therefore if your battery dies your lumbered.

I noticed it too, very odd.

I suppose it's an indicator of how high-profile the iPod is, that the problem features on international news shows.

I thought it was strange too that Sky News mentioned the release of the new iPod minis "1000 songs at half the price" as "more bad news"! (i.e. a cheaper model being released just after you've made your purchase).
