Hi folks,

could do with some help.

I have just bought a Firewire drive, and want to be able to boot up from a clone on that drive. I have a MacBook Pro 1.83GHz Intel Core Duo, running OS X 10.4.11, and an Iomega 750Gb Firewire 400 external drive. I'm using Intego Personal Backup X4 to produce a clone of my internal hard drive, a Western Digital 320Gb replacement.

I have no problem creating a clone with Personal Backup X4, but I am unable to get the laptop to boot up from the clone.

I have the laptop switched off, the external hard drive switched on and connected, switch the laptop on and keep the c key pressed, but every time it boots up from the internal drive, with no choice of which drive to boot from.

Where am I going wrong?

Thanks in advance,
Effortless.

What partition scheme is the firewire drive as the wrong type can prevent the Intel Mac booting from it.

Hold down the OPTION key to choose the drive to boot from, holding C tells it to go to the DVD/CDROM drive.

Thank you iShater!!! Now writing this whilst running off my clone!!

Yey!! 😀

Effortless.

Congrats. It helped that you put the detail of what you did in the first post.

Of course, if others read it they would have suggested the same thing. 😀
