Does anyone have an idea why I can't change the icon representing my hard drive to something else? I can change all other icons, as far as I can tell - for example I just successfully changed my iPod's desktop icon from the default to something else.

I'm using "get info" on the icon file I want, selecting the icon and hitting command-c (copy); then using "get info" on the item whose icon I want changed, selecting its current icon and hitting command-v (paste).

Thanks for your help!

BTW since someone is likely to suggest repairing permissions... I've already done that. 😕

hmmm..

try opening the icon images in preview( if they are in a picture format) copy them from there then paste in the hard dirve info window.

I had this happen to me a while back... not under Panther though. What I did was repair permissions and restart. All my icon changes had taken place.
