Bloomberg Publishes Steve Jobs Obituary

http://blogs.zdnet.com/BTL/?p=9825

Whoopsie!

Sure am glad that I didn't see this when it was published. I would have had a heart-attack of something like that.

Sheesh.

The same thing happened with Mark Twain, didn't it? Red faces all around, I'd imagine; apologies, too.

Uh, this has NOTHING to do with why Bloomberg has a Jobs obit on hand, just to be clear.

The Andy Dick comment made me laugh. He came to my college one time, went out to the bars in town, and then got arrested for public drunkenness.. LOL.

Anyways, even if this was an accident, it still has to hurt a little. I mean, way to kick a man when he's down, you know? My jaw dropped when I first read this, but was happy to read it was a mistake. I think he's an awesome guy, and would love to meet him.

At any rate, for Steve Jobs, it should be an iBituary.

This is extremely common in news agencies. It shouldn't be a surprise to anyone.

Many of them. It saves a lot of preparation, and sloppy (and rushed) research. Just as long as they are accurate, I don't mind the fact that they are written in advance (and doubtless updated fairly frequently). I recall reading a good few years ago that the late Lord Mountbatten dropped into some of the prominent papers in the UK some time before he was murdered to check the accuracy of his own obituary. Recently, an obit for a member of Kennedy's Cabinet in the most prestigious Irish daily managed to get the year of Bobby Kennedy's assassination wrong. Twice. When I phoned to correct them, they wanted to know what my "agenda" was. My "agenda" was simple. Accuracy in the paper of record, I told them.

Erm, that's actually awesome. How often does someone get to read their own obit?
