Just today I purchased a new notebook, this is my first time ever owning a Mac.

However, about a year ago I bought an iPod which I used on my old Dell, and with it built up a large music library. My old Dell is broke down on me (hence getting a new computer) and I am unable to access the hard drive and backup any of the MP3s from it manually.
I'm wondering if it's possible to transfer the song library from my iPod onto my new notebook. Will syncing the iPod with iTunes automatically do it (haven't tried it yet)? And if so, will the playcount, ratings, and playlists transfer as well? If that doesn't work, is there any applications you can download that will do the trick?

Sorry if this is an obvious question, but any advice or input would be appreciated.

Thanks!
