So I couldn't find a thread like this on my search and decided to start one! My wife and I recently bought our first house, and I've been putting my DIY skills to more use than ever before.

The latest project: construct a shoe closet for my special woman!

Cool idea for a thread. My project is a built-in window seat/entertainment center/book case in the living room. This is the window seat which is downstairs for finishing. Got one coat of poly on it. The top will get three coats, the rest two. Once this one is done, I need to sand and finish the other two sections. While I am at it, the carpet is coming up to expose the oak floors!

I have done a lot of updating to our house, it is almost more of a hobby than anything else. I'm at the point now where I'm just finishing up what we want to do on the inside. I have to see if I can find all the pictures of what I have done. I will start with the most recent ones.

Two weeks ago I built my wife a jewelry cabinet. The picture of the jewelry cabinet is when I had just finished it, and doesn't have all her stuff in it. I dont have a picture of it closed, but it has a full length mirror for the door.

I also built her a small desk, and book shelf for in our room, as we don't have a dedicated office. The left is a small drawer, and the right is a flip down door, and has a pull out tray for her computer. The large picture on the wall will be going shortly, and will have a monitor that hangs on the wall and can be swung over and used as a monitor at the desk.

A few months ago I built my son a abacus for his wall.

This was my project for a week last fall. My wife wanted a door out the back of the house, and we live in a tiny house. So we had to take the room out of the laundry room to make it happen. So I stacked our washer and dryer and cut a hole out the back. I then got rid of our kitchen table, and built one along with a floating bench. Here are some before, during and after shots.

Heh, do I have any reno pictures? Let me roll up my sleeves, ---and stand back boys.

First, my project folder, then all the drywall stacked up ready to carry upstairs to dryline the last remaining bedroom to be reno'd, the hall & stairs. Demolition and rebuilding.

(I feel pretty good about figuring out how to make the window sills for my non-standard wall depth and new vinyl windows. So grateful for my family, my parents helped me carry the drywall upstairs and install it. My brother & brother-in-law roughed-in the new windows.)

Scrofulous stairs. The last two of the steps & landing are from yesterday, and the blurry laminate flooring is from when my mom & I installed it and moisture barrier throughout the first floor a year or two ago. Wow, that alone really modulated the temperatures & humidity in my old house, plus all the additional thermal mass upstairs later. My mom & I also built a firewall with steel studs and cement board in the attic, which also keeps the snoopy neighbors out, and has had a helpful effect with heating & cooling.

My wife saw it on a website and wanted me to buy it. It was $1,400. So I just made it as I wouldn't pay that for it. I made a few changes to it though. I want it out of mahogany instead of Walnut, as I have some really cool nightstands that are mahogany, so I wanted it to match. Also, the one she saw had a long grommet like slot running down the back, and I just wanted a single hole. So the desk has power in it. She really loves the desk. I just need to figure out the chair. I had a potato chip style chair that I didn't like the lines of color. So I cut it down, and stained it a nicer color. the problem is she sits there a lot, and needs a more comfortable chair. I want something small though.

Anyway. Very excited about my next project. I want to build this table for our coffee table.

I built a similar table for my nephew a few years ago. The bottom has Lego Base plates and the table isn't quite as deep. There are also a few pockets for pieces. Fun project! Wish I had photos of it.

Thanks! the color is olive green (Benjamin Moore eggshell finish) Yeah, I love it too. If you want the exact shade I can look it up when I get home...

Edit: Walls are Tate Olive HC-112. Ceiling is Loisburg green HC-113. Both are Benjamin Moore

Hi

Not sure it is still some DYI, i'm doing a whole 1st floor in the house it's some 87 squared meters added.

At first it was empty, now we have two sleeping room (One for my son, and the other one for us), then i'll have to complete the third sleeping room and a bathroom. If i'm in time, it will be complete in a 2 month time. At the end it's a year project working on top of my works during days off and week ends

Next project will be a desk inspired by the Studio desk by Bluelounge but bigger (2 desks , 2.4m long)

Two week project turned into two months. Started out as repairing water damaged ceiling (from leaking skylights which have already been replaced) to a full bore remodel. Replaced windows, refaced fireplace, re-did laundry room/powder room, hallway and 2nd floor bedroom (used to be a loft, turned bedroom by previous owners). They left the railing and built a temp wall. I ripped it all down and put up a permanant wall. So my little remodel project ended up overhauling 1/2 of the house. bringing it into the 21st century
