Is it possible to put the dock/menu bar on an external monitor?

I do not want to run the macbook closed I actually don't mind using both monitors at the same time. My problem is the dock/menu bar is still on the screen on the macbook. Is there anyway both of those can be moved to the external monitor?
 
Yes, go to System Prefs->Displays->Arrangement and drag the little image of the menubar to the other display.
