When I have my 2nd Generation iPod Touch docked with the iHome, I get this very annoying static noise along with the music. The noise is there both when music is playing and when it's paused or off, as long as the iHome is set to iPod mode. I think it's a problem with the iPod and not the iHome because my iPod Video works fine with no static. Anybody else with this problem? Is there a way I can test the dock connector on the iPod Touch (it work fine with everything else)? What can I do to fix this? Or do I need to send it to Apple? Thanks.

Thanks for the suggestion but it didn't work. Anything else I should try?
try tweaking your settings. The static might be from the new addition of the nike+. You maybe wanna try turning random things off to see if it does anything.
The last thing you wanna do is reset your ipod or reinstall 2.1

It's probably power noise... the old ones sitting on the iHome were charging and not draining, so different "noise" produced. Thanks to apple's decision to change things up, it'd all different now, and renders all these old accessories useless.

So I tried some of the suggestions and they didn't work. However, when I drained the battery completely (just for battery maintenance) the noise stopped happening. At lest it did for a couple days. Today it came back and I am once again annoyed. One thing I noticed is that when I turn the iHome's volume to 0, there's no static. But, when the volume to 1-40, the static is there but the same volume. Also, the static seems to go away when the screen on the iPod dims. Any more help would be appreciated.

I have tried my iHome iH9 with my iPod Video and my iPod Touch 2G, and have not gotten any static. Have you tried turning soundcheck on/off on your iPod? Or tried changing the eq around?
I have the same problem as well. I got an iPod Touch (1st generation) and the iHome iH9 for my birthday earlier this week, and it would make the weird static/white noise sounds behind songs and inbetween songs. It's the same volume too, unless it's at 0, and then it disappears.

Thinking about it, I think it does have to do with the battery. When I tested my new iHome last night, my battery wasn't full... but of course by morning, it is.
So I just went and watched a couple youtube videos... not enough to see a difference in the battery meter, but obviously it uses some battery. So I put it in my iHome after, and the noise didn't start right away. It started again after about 15 seconds or so, but that's probably because it charged up full quickly.

I have tried my 5.5G iPod Video and it works fine with the iHome with no static, so I know that it's my iPod. I still think its weird that when I ran the battery dead, it stopped for a while but I don't know.
Yeah, my brother's ipod was fine. I'm thinking it might be my ipod.

No and I don't think I will. The noise is annoying but I can live with it. Besides, if yours is doing it to, I don't know if a new one will be any better.

iHome clock looks weird when ipod docked
When I put my iPod in the ihome the clock turns on some random lights and you can here the buzzing clicking noise the iPod makes even if the ihome wasn't on when I put the iPod touch on to it... And sometimes when I put my iPod on the ihome it zaps me which was caused my static I think

Update: I purchased an iHome iP9 from Costco to try out. Everything looks exactly the same as my iHome iH9 except for the label that says "iP9" and except for the power input, which rates it at 2000mAh whereas the iH9 is rated for 2140mAH. The funny thing is that the power adapter for the iH9 and iP9 are identical, rated at 2140mAh output.
The good news is that my iPod Touch 2G does NOT exhibit static noise on the iP9. The bad news is that some forums seem to indicate the iP9 and iH9 are supposed to be identical.

They seem to have authorized a purchase and return... will update later accordingly.
