Ever since the new software update, I sometimes am seeing an "O" in the top left where it would normally say 3G, Edge, or Wifi. What is the significance of that O? It doesn't stay there too long but it comes here and there. I live in the US and bought my phone in NY.

GPRS, basically you're in the never never land with some crap towers around you.

I think it goes to GPRS (the O) when it is trying to find a network to connect to or is switching between 3G and EDGE. That would explain why it is only there for a few seconds and then goes back to the regular network. I've experienced this a few times as well.

I keep my phone on Edge most of the time to conserve battery life (when im not surfing the web much). I still get the "O" even when im on Edge-only and not in the middle of switching between 3G and Edge. My WIFI is also off at these times that I get the O. The reception stays at 5 bars, goes from Edge to "O", then comes back to Edge... Not sure why this happens?

My, my, does no one ever search the forums before posting? This question has been answered at least once today, much less dozens of times before

Before I got my iPhone, my Samsung phone did the same thing - It showed a G sometimes, but normally it would turn back to either an E or 3G within 5-10 seconds.

I don't see why Apple doesn't just make it a single "G". People would still ask what it means, but at least it's more logical that G = GPRS, rather than dot = GPRS.

Pointless post  Either answer a question or move along.
The search function is absolutely terrible and does not bring up relevant threads or posts at all. Mroogle is slightly better, but why should we have to use Google eh? A case in point: there is a thread about UK issues with the 2.1 firmware, but does searching for UK 2.1 firmware or various other combinations of keywords bring it up? No.
People posting the tired old "search before posting" comments should just give it a rest, in my humble opinion.
