German iTunes Movies Coming?

German site wiwo.de (English translation) is claiming that Apple will launch iTunes movie purchases and rentals within the next few weeks in Germany.

According to the site's sources Apple is currently building a catalog of German movies to provide at launch.

Apple began selling TV shows in Germany in April 2008. By year's end, HDTV-quality offerings should also be available according to wiwo.de.

I thought Steve Jobs promised at Macworld 2008, that it should be available to all other countries outside US by years end? I hope it comes true, I would really love this in the Netherlands. Buying an Apple TV now is not worth it.

Yeah, that's great and all but when is the Portuguese store getting some movies (download and rent) and TV Shows?
I know there's a lot of corporate bullcrap involved in getting movies and shows overseas but come on! Is it really that difficult?

not bad but it'll be overpriced just as much as the tv shows. The price of a tv show season is almost twice as much as the physical box set in better quality with menu, bonus features and the pretty box itself obvs

Well, I'm hoping for easy movie rentals. If it was priced ok, I might consider getting an AppleTV. Looking forward to the debut, so I can decide for myself wether it is worth it.

Well, I also hope that this time they start with both German and English language versions. iTunes Germany started with TV shows in German only; however, they now offer TV shows in both German and English versions.

If they have original language versions, I'll definitely use their rental service. I won't rent dubbed films.

Maybe Ms Kuneva will help. She's planning to outlaw the practice of locking out people from other Member States.

That would mean that anyone in the EU could start shopping in any EU Apple Store and iTunes store.

As utopic as that may sound, it would be a happy day for Europeans!
