Before i jailbreak?

Yo people, just wanted to ask you a question?
Should i backup>restore>jailbreak or should i just jailbreak it straight away, because i have quite a few pages of apps and was wondering what other people did.

itts my second time as i cydia was abit confusing last time and then when i restored, it didnt backup properly and i lost my contacts!
