iPhone Arrives in Russia on October 3rd

Reuters reports that the iPhone will finally go on sale in Russia beginning on October 3rd with estimates that 150,000 units could be sold by the end of the year.
Quote:
"All retailers will begin sales of iPhone in Russia at the same time, during the night between October 2 and October 3. Our company will be also selling them," Nadezhda Senyuk, a PR director at retail chain Tekhnosila, said by telephone.
The iPhone will go on sale with three major carriers in Russia: MTS, Vimpelcom, and MegaFon and are currently taking advanced orders.

Was that a typo? Are you saying that for the entire population of Russia, only
150,000 iPhones will be sold between now and the end of the year ?

Some analisys shows that more than 700.000 iPhones have been sold in Russia not officialy (re-sellers from USA & Europe) which makes Russia 3rd biggest iPhone market after China (2nd) & USA (1st).

So the real question is why Apple is starting selling iPhone in Russia only now

Long Lines

I work the iPhone tech support line, and last week got a call from a woman who had just returned home to the states from Moscow. She said there were already long lines of people waiting for the iPhone.

Methinks the Russians are taking this whole capitalism thing a bit too seriously...

Why? can Americans not discuss something about Russia without making a stupid comment on the Soviet days (They aren't even funny if they were I would not of written what I just had).

Anyway good to see that Russia are getting them officially

Well that ends that! Northy has obviously proven him/herself to be the be-all end-all authority of all that comical.
I guess we should all apologize and cow-tow to the grandeur that is northy's critical expert opinion of all things humorous.

Considering all the foreign flak Americans take with the unfair & mostly untrue generalizations about being fat, stupid, lazy, or unkempt I'd say small innocuous jokes like those (that in no way are saying anything about the country in question) shouldn't be met with such abrasiveness.

Then again, maybe the abrasiveness is just due to an excessively sandy vagina today.
I suggest you go wash it out and learn to take a joke.

I agree that the "communist" jokes about Russia are just tired. It's like the "Your mama is so fat..." jokes, they are childish and lame. Modern Russia offers plenty of opportunities for more current humor, including political paranoia, the resurgence of propaganda and neo-totalitarianism, rubbing one's wealth in your face, etc. Why don't you make fun of something relevant, instead of going for a regime that has ceased to exist about 20 years ago? Sometimes it would be as easy as replacing "Soviet Russia" with "Putin's Russia"

I actually do know how to take a joke but when they are the same ones over and over again it gets boring, I know many Americans and they are what the international view is on them (Also what you said).

Wouldn't make a difference in how funny they are seeing as it would still be the same jokes with one or two words changed.

Relax man, it's a freakin' joke from Family Guy. It's not an attack on Russia or anything. I'm Russian and I don't take offense to it, because it's from a silly cartoon. Take it from where it comes.

Good to see other countries getting ahold of the iPhone! Hopefully Apple's market-share in the handset mobile market will continue to grow

iPhone in Russia - what sellers know

One guy from RussianiPhone.ru team have talked with shop assistants from 16 points of sale like M-Video, Euroset, Svyaznoy, Alt-telecom about iPhone features. What do they know about iPhone? Here are results:
  • iPhone works fine only with Apple computers.
  • There is no iTunes. Sellers does not know, it exists, although some seller consultants have heard something about it and think that it can be bought somewhere. abroad…
  • There is white iTunes or aluminum.. a little one… We don’t have it in our shop.
  • Something does not swithching on - there is drawing of cable, perhaps it is discharged... will bring you the new one - ups, this new one is also discharged - all of them.
  • Activation?? What is it ?
  • No, works only with the SIM-card which one was enabled. So, you can’t turn it on just like that. Only after purchase… And do not turn it off then!
  • Yes, you can buy a memory card. Which one ? Lets me see… (went to the warehouse).
  • Yes, right! SD or MicroSD with adapter, here is a card-reader at the top.
  • What does it mean where is SIM-card inserted ? Just open battery cover and put your SIM-card here…Wait… i can’t open it. Hey, Sveta! You’ve long fingernails. Please, open it.
  • No, you can’t upload something to iPhone. Only if using WiFi.
  • Yep, actually, one speaker is not working, It seems to be a flaw cause it should be stereo. Mike is located in the front - where is button. Speak in to the square.
  • Yes, we have silicon case. It is the same as iPhone GSM. they are the same. What sensor? Ups, yes, screen went blank.
  • Black one is working only with Windows and white only with Mac.
  • Games? Yes, you can get download link via SMS payment service
  • Off course you can transfer ring tones. Have you ever heard about Bluetooth ? Ops.. fault. Lets try via WiFi… Nope… You know… we have a lot of interference here. It will definetly work at home. Would you like to buy it ?
  • Yeah, somebody crack IPhones and makes call abroad for free.
  • How ?.. Button ? Ough, it is a headset button indeed…
  • GPS is working fine while you connect to your cigarette lighter(in a car). By the way we have car charger on sale.
  • No, you can use iPhone gloved.. Press stronger!.. More stronger!.. Weird.. Lets me try…
  • OS version ? I believe Windows Mobile 2009!
