New look for my personal Website

I only have the front page done, and have until Dec 3rd to complete it. Now here are some questions:

Is it wise to honest about who I am?

Is it advisable to reveal my politics, even if it's anti-socialist?

Does the slide show do the Website justice?

How about the layout and background?

Like I said this is only a starting point, not a completed Website.

It's pretty basic, nothing that stands out in terms of the design. (I'm guessing your a programmer rather than a designer?)

Is this a portfolio web site? Are you intending to use it to get clients/work? If so, the ONLY content you need is your work. Clients don't care who you are going to vote for or what you ate for breakfast. If you want a blog then keep is separate.


Oh and "Dangers of Socialism"
Let met guess... you going to equate socialism with statism?

It's going to be a personal site w/portfolio. Yes, I am more of a coder than a designer - think more with the left side of my brain.

No, I plan to critique socialism as an unreasonable political system, but plan to point the good in it too. Oh, and what's statism?

Statism is a very loose and often derogatory term that is used to describe:

- Specific instances of state intervention in personal, social or economic matters.
- A form of government or economic system that involves significant state intervention in personal, social or economic matters.
- The belief that a political group should maintain a monopoly on the use of force in a given geographical area.

There is no precise definition of how much state intervention represents statism. Thus, at one extreme, some anarchists consider that the mere existence of a state is enough to make a country statist, while at the other extreme it is argued that only the most rigid totalitarian systems are truly statist. Usually, however, the term "statism" is used with a negative or derogatory connotation, in reference to something that the speaker considers to be an example of too much state intervention.

Compare to socialism, which in its essence is just collective ownership (which may or may not be through the state), but in practice is probably the most congested political theory ever thought of. Most people's criticism of socialism tend to be criticism of statism.

Socialism and communism are often accused by their opponents of being "statist". However, a few observations need to be made:

- Most forms of socialism are opposed to state intervention in matters of personal freedom (though some forms of socialism favor a strongly regulated or even entirely state-controlled economy; see state socialism). XHTML 1.0 deprecated the embed tag. Also see A List Apart for some details.
