Um. Wow. Gonna disagree here.
The only way I know how to describe Mr. Carson would result in a post that is primarily composed of asterisks. While I can't deny the man singlehandedly changed typography as we know it - even if he did fall bass-ackwards into it - he hasn't done much since the mid 1990s. The concepts I see from him today look about the same as they did ten years ago. Design has kept moving. He hasn't.
Full disclosure - I tangentially worked with him on a project once. Not something I'd recommend.
