Sydney Store - Apple staff installing New MacBook and Macbook Pro display

I took a walk down to my local apple store this morning (Sydney Australia) and found I arrived just in time to watch the staff switch out the 'old' MacBooks for the new ones. I arrived just as the last MacBook Pro was being hooked up to the security alarm but was able to capture the entire process of adding the MacBooks.

I just missed one employee carrying 12 'old' MacBooks into the back, the picture is too blurry to post.

Enjoy!

The store was empty, they didn't bring them out until about 11:30AM. According to an employee the truck arrived late, it was supposed to be there at 8AM but didn't get there until 11.

I imagine they'll be all set up when you get there like they usually are.

Can you solve the mystery of the backlit keyboard on the low-end model?

The trackpad took a little bit to get used to, a little awkward not feeling the button with your thumb but you can press down anywhere which is really cool. It will change the way people use trackpads in that most currently click with their thumb but on this one you can click with your fingers as you move around.

They look a lost sleeker than the pictures make it look, not thin like the MacBook Air but smooth and rounded.

Can't help on that front, when I was there I had no idea there was confusion about the backlit keyboard. I may go investigate later this afternoon so check back tomorrow morning (your time).

It's not a mystery. It's not backlit.

You are correct. If you look at one of the pictures posted by the OP, you can see that the F5 AND F6 keys do NOT have the brightness for the backlit keyboard = no backlit keyboard...

The F5 and F6 keys on a 2.4 GHz Macbook have those function keys, you can check the unboxing photo's on Engadget.

Are you shocked? Why? It's apple!!

With Apple there is always a catch. They will never give the user what they want at the price point they want at a great deal and there is always a catch. No Matte, no firewire no matte for the Pro? Are you kidding?

So why be shocked at no backlit for black. Wait to see how complaining it becomes for the gamer in the dark that can't see their keys.

Only a matter of time. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised to see 3rd party backlit keyboard kits for under $100 and maybe if they didn't solder the CPU, who knows, a complete upgrade kit.

You believe so because it's true. Everyone else won't listen to people who say it's NOT backlit, and yet believe the first Apple Sales Rep who's confused and says it's backlit.

Steve Jobs says it's not backlit. The MacBook specification page explicitly says that the 2.0 GH version isn't backlit. There's only one 2.0 GHz MacBook, and it's aluminium and costs $1299.

Hmmmmm.......

There are so many things wrong with what you just said, I doubt anybody else but me would bother to reply to you directly.

Anyway, you think it's Apple's fault that they won't sell me an MBA at netbook prices, or a new 15" MBP for $500? That's how much I want to pay, after all. In fact, I'd prefer free. Come on, Apple. I'm a customer! Oh wait, no I'm not. I don't have any money, so I'll just continue to complain about what I want and can't have.

And Aston Martin just lost a customer. Lower the price of a DBS to the price of a Honda Civic, then I may go for it. It was either a DBS, or a Honda Fit. I just couldn't decide....

Why, does every other laptop keyboard on the market have a backlight? No? Can people still use them without issue? Yes? Ok then, it's sorted.

No I didn't believe just one Rep, I believed Reps 2 & 3 and their Supervisors. And if they were all wrong then Apple has some compensating to do, it's like Aston Martin saying there price did drop to the civic price but then took it back. I know, poke holes in that analogy.
