Time Capsule

Hello everybody I am going to buy a iMac soon and would like to get an external hard-drive to take advantage on the Time Machine program. I would like to buy a 500GB Time Capsule because it is wireless so it will keep the iMac uncluttered.

However because the Time Capsule works on wireless networks dose that mean that any computer on the network will be able to delete and look at all my data on the Time Capsule.

Or is there a way of password protecting the content of the Time Capsule so my brother can't just edit what's on it.

Thank You.

There is a password option. You can either have it the same password as the admin on the Time Capsule, or you can create separate users/logins.

Dan, you may be new to Mac, but you already have good taste
I would recommend the 1TB version (the one i have) as it is simply that, Larger. I would also say that although Time Capsule may be a little slower over Wireless, since your using it only for Time Machine, i doubt you will notice. Do cable the first backup though...

thanks for your advice. Yeah I am new to macs. Might think about the 1tb time capsule. How does time machine work though? Does for instence say you have a song would it keep on backing up that song so there are loads of duplicates of the song or what?

Thanks

No, it makes a full backup the first time then simply backs up the changes in your drive. Basically, it just makes a little note saying "file still there" from the original backup forward, until that file is changed, then it adds that change to the next backup, those two steps just alternate as necessary.

it's really handy to have. but I only have my Time machine make a back up once a week and not every hour (default setting). Was thinking this will help in saving disk space. I'm not really sure if it makes a difference.
