Apple publicly Against California Prop 8

It is in their top stories, but Apple is publicly against Proposition 8 feed://www.apple.com/main/rss/hotnews/hotnews.rss

Great news as having Californians eliminate the rights of people will be a sad, sad first in this country.

Way to go Apple.

It's on their hotnews page. This is their statement:

That feed is pretty much the only news on this subject. I've looked for a bit and it's all the same paragraph as in the feed.

Why not publish pleading, whining clips on hunger, GHG, poverty, spousal abuse, and child neglect? Just turn the whole front page into a political blog. To hell with using valuable web space for actual marketing. Oh brother.

The only reasons ever given ARE religious. It has nothing to do with anything else.

For those not aware. Proposition 8 is on the November ballot in California. It would amend our state constitution to eliminate the right of people to marry the person of their choice. People would only have the option to marry a person of the opposite sex.

The only reason for eliminating this right is a religious one.

Not that I really care either way, but I think it's more complex than that. But there are potentially financial advantages, tax breaks, etc. given to those defined as "married." Maybe a better question would be why do "married" people get special treatment while single people do not? The only argument I can think of is it's to promote union, procreation, and family. A few things a nation needs to survive I guess. So if any of that is true, then allowing same sex marriage definitely confuses the point. I would think the potential for fraud is huge as well. Whereas not many men and women would get married just for financial advantage, perhaps roommates (usually same sex) would opt to do so. So then what? Maybe we need a whole branch of govt to check up on these same sex marriages just to make sure they're legit. Which of course is spending more of my tax dollars on something I could care less about.

Yet another issue that would be gone if we take the tax and spend power away from the politicians. No more vote for me and I'll get you this or ban this. Let them do their job and vote on issues on their merits and their own conscience, not promises. Check out the fair tax.

I strongly contest that such a "right to marry the person of your choice" ever existed.

Regardless, yes on Prop 8 takes away absolutely no rights from anyone. It simply says that the term "marriage" only applies to one man and one woman, like it has since the earth existed. NEVER, even in ancient societies that accepted gays, was the term "marriage" ever applied to them. I see no reason to start now, except that gays want to force the public to view their activities as acceptable, by applying the term "marriage" to them.

If you really want to start discussing "traditional" marriage you better to be ready to explain why the transference of property (the woman) from one family to another should still be practiced.

It's to save humanity...

You know, people who support this (YES on 8) feel very strongly and are very emotional about it. They truly believe they are right in their position.

Funny, the attitude and support are remarkably similar to Jim Crow laws.

Ppl I have talked to have an issue with calling it "marriage" they don't necessarily have an issue with gay ppl getting married they just don't want it called marriage and hurt what they call "the true sanctity of marriage between a man and a woman". in which I replied, in this day and age when ppl get divorced more times then they change their underwear, where is the sanctity in that?

It is also something to consider at the National level where a candidate like McCain will also try and take this away from people. Despite what he claims is just a state issue.

I find it more interesting how adept Google is at this at times.

This thread already has a "Vote No on 8" ad.

Then again, not like this thread is very cryptic.

Obama opposes same-sex marriage as well.

Including an explanation in the original post might help those (like myself) who didn't know what Prop 8 is.

Quote:
Proposition 8 is an initiative measure on the 2008 California General Election ballot titled Eliminates Right of Same-Sex Couples to Marry. If passed, the proposition would "change the California Constitution to eliminate the right of same-sex couples to marry in California." A new section would be added stating "only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California."

The measure was originally submitted for the ballot by petitioners with the title "California Marriage Protection Act." The title and summary were revised by Attorney General Jerry Brown to more "accurately reflect the measure." The Superior Court of California ruled in favor of these changes, stating, "The title and summary is not false or misleading because it states that Proposition 8 would 'eliminate the right of same-sex couples to marry' in California. The California Supreme Court unequivocally held that same-sex couples have a constitutional right to marry under the California Constitution."

A very noble and much needed announcement from Apple. Hopefully, Apple's public "coming out" against this Prop will give the No on 8 campaign the extra 1-2% it needs to defeat this barbaric proposition.

And as a thanks, time to buy a new iPod!
