Trackpad momentarily stops working

Yep - mine does the same thing, it stops working for a second, or the mouse cursor jumps about an inch on screen.

I don't think it is a hardware problem. Hopefully they just need to update the track pad firmware.

I did not experience this at all with my MB. I would really call Apple about it as I don't think this is an issue that is widely reported.
If they're exchanging for so-called "crooked keys" then this should be something they'll exchange for or push out a mysterious "security update" that does something to the trackpad.

Mine got better when I ran the updates yesterday.

What I have noticed with the trackpad is that the tap-to-click function is not accepted at all times. For example, you tap on a hyperlink, and nothing happens. Or, you tap on another tab in FireFox, but Firefox does not switch to that tab. Sometimes, you tap in the text you are editing, but the mouse pointer does not place the cursor in the place where you tapped. It takes a few taps before the "click" is accepted by the new Macbook. However, this happens intermittently. I started noticing this a few days ago, and normally it happens a few minutes afer I power up my Macbook. Then, it goes away, and the trackpad starts working fine again.

A few days ago, I loaded several shareware programs on my Macbook (FTPd TftpServer, QuickTerm, etc.). I also installed DeepSleep (which is a widget that allows to make the Mac hybernate instead of going to standby in order to preserve battery). I have been hybernating my Macbook for a few days now, and when I turn it on, it comes out of hybernation rather than loading all the way from cold boot). However, I also tried to restart my Macbook when the trackpad problem starts, and it does not help it.

I am not sure if the new software I loaded causes the problem with the trackpad, or alternatively, if the heat factor plays any role. It appears that after the Macbook has been on for some time, the problem goes away.

Has anyone experienced this problem yet?

Yep, sometimes it seems more sensitive than others - i.e. needs a stronger tap to register said tap. It has briefly failed to register taps and scrolls etc., and had trouble picking up double-tap-and-drag when moving windows around the screen or selecting text for example. The trackpad takes a couple of seconds after waking from sleep to wake up itself but I figured that's normal.

Interestingly, while the physical click is easier towards the bottom of the pad, I don't need a harder or softer tap-to-click in certain areas of the pad.

I haven't had mine long enough to be able to tell if it's worse/better with heat or being on a long time or when waking up etc.

I've had the same thing happen to me, it goes on intermittently for about 5-10 seconds and then it works fine.

some observations...

if you have tap/drag on you can see the problem there as well, basically, when you tap hold to drag you can let go and it won't release the drag (this is with drag lock turned off)

probably unrelated but if you do any screen casting and you set options to show the clicks many times taps will not register.

the thing just works erratically, but I am living with it because I like to tap for all my clicks, I really don't like how the track pad is hinged either because it is very difficult to click near the top, just another reason I use tap for clicking on everything...hopefully they will come out with a software update to make it function better
