Hard Drive wont boot

I just noticed, when I plugged in my hard drive it doesnt boot up. The light is on the harddrive and you can hear/feel it spinning, but it doesnt register. Any help?
 
If you are running 10.5 you might have to reboot before the external shows up - ("undocumented feature")
