Starbucks IS included in ATTs free wifi.

AT&T knows Wi-Fi is hot, and FREE Wi-Fi is even hotter. Which is why FREE AT&T Wi-Fi access is now available for Apple iPhone at thousands of hotspots nationwide, including Starbucks*. Users can relax and access music, email and web browsing services with their favorite blend in hand from the comfort of their nearest location. For information visit www.att.com/attwifi.

Find a Starbucks location near you.

*Wi-Fi available at U.S. company-operated Starbucks locations equipped with a hotspot.

If this is real (and it looks like it) this is a huge deal. I'm often at Airports with weak cell networks but a nice AT&T hotspot staring me in the face. I've never wanted to pay for one before. If this is true it will be a big selling point.

wifi is free at Starbucks if you use the method specified on at&t's website:

iPhone users, get started with Wi-Fi

Activate Wi-Fi from the settings icon on your iPhone

Select "attwifi" from the list of available networks

Enter your 10-digit mobile number and check the box to agree to the Acceptable Use Policy. Tap 'continue'

You will receive a text message from AT&T with a secure link to the AT&T Wi-Fi hotspot. You will not be charged for the text message.

The SMS link will only be valid for 24 hours at the location it was requested.

Another request must be submitted when using another hotspot location.

Open the text message and tap on the link for 24-hour access to the AT&T Wi-Fi hotspot

I've been doing the Starbucks Card method of getting free wifi, but it's nice to know even that's not necessary now.

AT&T hotspots are also at McDonalds and Barnes & Noble, at least here in California. I have AT&T DSL at home, so have already had free hotspot access, but it's nice to know I can use this as a backup.

Glad this got revived. I recall a similar text message from AT&T about two months ago.

And when I tried it just didn't work. But I didn't enter the phone number like it just suggested.

We'll there is a Starbucks just down the street. Going to give it a try.

I was at starbucks this morning in NC and it worked! The page will come up on your iPhone and then they will send you a text message to access the free wifi. Worked perfectly!

Well this is certainly welcome. Will the login work on my laptop as well?

Curious people want to know.

about time

I was close to paying for access at a Barnes & Noble the other day.

It is a lot to pay for regular access...on top of my $100 plus phone service.

CAVEAT: These have to be US company-owned Starbucks. There are still some Starbucks locations (at least in the Sacramento area) that are still T-Mobile hotspots. YMMV, so check with the people there to be sure that it is an ATT hotspot.

I have AT&T-Yahoo! DSL at home, so I'm eligible for free wifi through that, too. Before I got my iPhone I had an iPod touch. I don't know if the login is the same, but I could use the wifi on any device I chose to (iPod, laptop, etc.).

You should, if you went with ATT.

I wish rather than having to log on and all this stuff, that they detected our IMEI numbers and that way we would auto log on, and be connected to wifi when walking by starbucks, etc, even when we didn't realize it.

I too just go this text message. It would be sweet if it worked at Barnes & Noble. I love that place. Don't frequent Starbucks all that often, at least not going to sit inside that is.

I hope this stays around though. Always nice to have FREE wi-fi hotspots!

I hope that it's working already. I'm planning on going to a Starbucks at lunch for a coffee.

Good stuff.

Great news. My parents have ATT DSL (formerly Bellsouth, where we live) so I could have used that if needed but the iPhone deal is sweet. Hope to receive the text message on my phone soon.
