iPod touch ipod touch is not recognized in iTunes - new HD

Hi, my iMac's HD went belly up so I have a new hard drive. When I plug my iPod touch into my iMac now, iTunes does not bring up any devices. I am plugged into the computer directly. iPhoto opens up when I connect because there are two screen shots on the touch. Also it is charging when it is plugged in but there are no devices on itunes. Anyone able to help me PLEASE?

sounds like a problem with iTunes, your best bet is to go to the iTunes website and re-download it, one of the services may not be working or running to recognise the iPod
