garage band musical typing and midid controller advice

I have garageband 1.1. Aparently, musical typing didn't come into play until GB 2. Does any one know if I can obtain musical typing without buying a newer version of iLife? If not, can anyone suggest a cheap 25 key midi controller that still has relatively good features? Thanks in advace.

GarageBand-like Musical Typing

I susbsribe the question above.

Is there a stand-alone musical typing program for mac?
I have looked around and found none...

It is not practical to open garageband just for that...
