Apple Acknowledges Mac Mini Update?

The fate of the Mac Mini remains a hot topic with conflicting reports about the fate of the Mac mini. While early reports have suggested the Mini will be discontinued, others have claimed that there will be at least one more update.

Some possible hope for those waiting for a Mini update comes from an unlikely source. One concerned customer reportedly received a response from Apple after firing off a concerned email about the fate of the Mac Mini to Apple's Mac hardware engineering chief:
Quote:
I got a prompt reply by phone from an Apple executive care person essentially giving me no new information but assuring me that Apple knew the mini was a popular machine and to be patient
Given Apple's statement that there are no plans for new products before the holiday season, the next opportunity for Apple to introduce a new Mac Mini is Macworld San Francisco which takes place between January 5-9th, 2009.

look forward to see what they have up their sleeves...maybe the apple tv/mac mini combo many would really like to see. Otherwise i think the mini could be a great machine once again if it were given the right specs and price!

Great! I'm happy to see the Mac Mini stick around a bit longer. It just needs a refresh... Possible Black plastic on the top much like the new iMac.

good news

i can be patient, as long as it isn't for long periods of time. but another few months is just fine. I am jsut glad that Apple is aware that the mini is a popular product and people want new ones. until then, i will wait.

I'm starting to doubt all these email replies.

But you never know. I hope the Mac Mini is continued and updated at MWSF '09.

This is a fantastic piece of non-news! Someone reportedly got a call (so it's not documented) from a tech who told them to wait. It's like money in the bank.

Last April I was waiting for a Mini update. I'm glad I gave up in the end, and got an iMac. Which of course, is exactly what Apple want people to do.

Now that almost everyone has given up, they can start the whole cycle again.

Definatley still a strong market for the mini! Great little machine, just needs a specs boost and it'll be a strong seller again.

Seems promising. But I will believe it when I see a new one in the store.

Bring It !!!!

1- Let's see if they keep the FW400 port !
2- Oh and the new monitor connection vs. DVI
3- FW800 would be nice, or even eSATA if there's room...
4- And I'm hoping they keep the Superdrive, there are some of us who still use CDs & DVDs and Archive our Media to them....

Did I forget anything??

When the guy said "No new products," does that exclude existing product updates?

This just confirms my statement that the NEW CUBE is coming. You may thank me later for the scoop...

That's my thought exactly. With the economy not in the best of shape, but not totally bottomed out, it's in Apple's best interests to wait as long as possible to introduce a new revised mini.

I got mine in February and glad I did as it would have been a long wait to MWSF '09.

MAC Mini

The Mac Mini will continue to be a low cost offering from Apple as they need something at that price point.

I just think it's funny that the fact that Apple knows the MacMini is popular is news.

But it looks like MWSF is the time and place for an update.

A mini stack of separate components could form a cube. AppleTV, mini media storage, Blu-Ray player, ect.

Wow I cant wait, Sure hope it's true.
I'm pretty confident they wont discontinue the mac mini line. As it serves it's purpose as the replacement to the emac. It's just that their so sloooow at updates.

I kinda see their reasoning for keeping it so unbelievably under spect.
They don't want it to compete with their prized iMac line.

But they know that many schools do rely on the lower powered, but still very capable mac mini.
Also for people like me. Who already owns a crap load of macs. I wants a mini so I can have a small space saving computer out in my garage.

i predict that the mac mini will NOT have the right combo of specs/price/marketing for the average rabid Apple fan. i plan on getting one regardless, but i am already tuning out the whines in advance.

I certainly hope they come out with a new one; I was hoping to buy the wife one to replace her aging Windows box (so I can reformat it with Linux )
