Common words used by College Students

Any help with the following would be appreciated:

I am currently writting a story about Amercian College Students, however the problem is I don't have much knowledge on general speech/terms.

I live in Australia, so we say G'Day for hello, and Mate for friend. What are the equivalent terms that college students use for these two terms in particular?

Also, if anyone wants to add any other common words/phrases/slang used by college students, that would be appreciated. (I am more just looking for basic terms, that is specific and different to what British/Australian would use)

Again, any help would be appreciated, its incrediably hard to find this out in general internet searches.
