iPod nano 1.0.3 - Big Update!

1.0.3 is out,

Adds support for Apple earbuds and in-ear headphones with microphone.

Allows you to turn off Cover Flow when rotating and adds a Cover Flow menu item.

Bunch of other bug fixes.

i thought it already had support for headphones with mics built in, because my iphone earbuds worked with my nano and brought up a voice recorder menu.

also im pleasantly surprised about the coverflow switch (i thought it would be bug fixes), i never use coverflow, but i do use my ipod on its side sometimes.

What a great thing to wake up to!

No more coverflow issues

This could be the best nano ever with these bug fixes........

You are correct! Had my iPhone headphones with the mic and it changed songs even with the new 3 click to back up

what other bugs are there? I'm tempted to upgrade, my 8gb 3rd gen but I'm not seeing a lot of better things. I just like the colors and the 16gb size haha. What features are you guys really liking over the prev. gen nanos? Most reviews I read, upgrade is not worth it.. =/

This is a great update! I have been on the fence on getting this nano, as I kept hearing about this coverflow issue. I am glad to see Apple fixed it.

I will hold off a little longer to see if there are any more issues before I jump in.

Hallelujah!

I was just swearing at my Nano again today for turning on cover flow when I was working out. This is great news!

Unfortunately, my first 4G Nano got stolen within 3 weeks of purchase, so I'm already on my second. Whoever stole the first one gets the 16GB Nano AND the fix. Damn.

I was wondering, does this update, as a result of the coverflow fix, reduces overall battery life now?

And dam Apple for not releasing those headphones yet. -_-"

Don't you mean increase overall battery life? Why would it decrease battery life?

I dont understand why people is complaining their battery life?
I just tried to play the ipod nano with background light off. After it plays for 21 hour non-stop, there are still 40% of battery in the bar.

Maybe the 40% isnt accurate, but playing 21 hour non-stop doesnt seem to be having bad battery life.

Is there any possibility to install this update offline? Right now I can't connect my iPod to my MacBook (forgot the cable ^^), but I can't download the new update cause the iPod is not connected, and when I can connect my iPod to my MacBook again I can't get online with my MacBook.

I guess I'll have to wait till next week ...

It should improve battery life because the screen would no longer be constantly turned on by accident.

I'm not too sure what you mean. What do you mean by "I can't download the new update cause the iPod is not connected"? As long as you have an internet connection, you can download the update.

What I meant was that I can't be online with my MacBook and have the iPod connected to it at the same time. Yeah, I know this sounds extremely stupid but it's complicated to explain. But it doesn't matter, I just have to wait till next weekend to be able to deactive that annoying switch to Coverflow when moving the iPod

Oh you can just download it, a window will appear that have the options "download only" or "download and install". Choose download only, it'll save itself in iTunes downloads, then it'll install on the iPod when you plug it in.

In the spirit of forum whinging... :)

Now I can turn off Coverflow, I miss it accidentally coming on.

My old work around was to put it on hold when I didn't want coverflow to engage. Maybe I'll go back to that method again...

LOL

Can anyone please confirm if cover flow performance has been improved on the new nano's? The old "fat square" nano's cover flow was very choppy and didn't perform smoothe.

Coverflow is pretty smooth on my nano. I never really used it other than playing around when I first got it though, but I just tried scrolling through it. No choppiness or hiccups whatsoever. Everything flies by, stops when you want to, the covers turn over to reveal the songs quickly.

i experienced both. It's a night-and-day difference. In the 3G ("fattie") it's choppy, slow on loading the cover art and has no anti-aliasing. On the 4G, it's flawless.

I wish I could disable cover flow on my iPhone.Wish it only acivated when I'm browsing "albums".
