Hello.

I have an Alu iMac (20", 2GHz, 10.5.5), which should have a Gigabit Ethernet port.

But whenever I connect the iMac to my MacBook via Cat5+ cable, either directly or via a Gigabit router, I only get 10 to 11 MByte/s.

The switch shows that a Gigabit connection is enabled to the MacBook, but only a 100Mbit connection to the iMac.

Do I have to change some settings on the iMac or what?

Open Network Utility and check the details for Network Interface (en0) on the Info tab.

The Link Speed should say 1 Gbit/s.

Try a different cable? You allegedly need a Cat5e cable for gigabit speeds.

Try a different port on the switch?

I tried that, three Gigabit cables (Cat 5e+) and a different port at the switch.

But I'm currently not home at my iMac, so I can't look into the Network Utility.

But tomorrow I will report back.
