Macbook Pro to 2 external monitors?

Do you really need the DualHead2Go? I was under the impression that you could just hook this up and connect the other 2 external displays with DVI connectors(unless you have a 30").
 
From what I know, the Dual Link DVI isn't actually 2 seperate DVI ports but is in fact a special DVI port to enable the use of the 30" ACD's.

No it's just the miniDP to Dual Link DVI adapter which is able to drive up to WQXGA/WQUXGA aka 2560x1600@60 or 3840x2400@33.
