New MBA owner here. Gen a, 1.6. Love it so far. But, so far can't get it to play DVD's on remote disc. It gives a message about copy protection and then DVD player has a "unrecoverable error." I have tried several different DVDs. Any suggestions?

P.S. Others report overheating while playing youyube videos. I have been playing a youtube vid for 17 minutes, CPA at 124 degrees and fan at 2400 rpms. Nice...

Straight from this article on Apple's support site: Some discs, such as DVD movies and game discs, may be copy-protected and therefore unusable through DVD or CD Sharing.

Yes, you can't watch DVDs with an MBA. That's why Apple said that's why iTunes is here for... like renting a movie.

Umm, say this ain't so?? Your proc. temp. is at 124ºC and your fan is at 2400rpm. You probably can't read this and reply because it shut down. It can't be playing a youtube for 17min. and only be 51C. Something doesn't add up here.

That is not correct. You CAN watch DVDs on the MBA, it´s just impossible via remote disc.

That's what I meant. Sorry for being unclear 😱

hmmmm, I don't have any problems watching DVD via remote disc...may be b/c of my disc is not copy-protected?

Exactly.

Apart from the technical possibility it´s simply a legal term - watching encrypted DVDs remotely may be considered cracking encryption. As you might know about all that DMCA stuff - Apple cannot allow watching DVDs remotely.
