Im looking for a microphone that will work on the Ipod touch 1G. Not the 2G!!!

Microphone needs to work with an Ipod Touch 1G that is
- Unjailbroken
- Works with Fring
- No sodering or any other hardware modifications

I want it to be that simple. Does anyone have this?

not a shot of happening because the 1g only has a 3 pin connector and the 2g has a 4 pin connector so it will never happen

yeah, iVoiceIII

The new iPod firmware 2.2 has released an update that lets a mic to be plugged into the dock port, apparently the macally iVoiceIII can be plugged in there and it works, several people have said this works. Google it and check out the other posts. The 1st gen ipod touch may not have the hardware to support a mic in the earphone port, but it does have the support in the dock port, hope this helps!

God Bless!

Ipod touch 1G mic

Just to confirm that it is now possible to use a microphone to input audio and use Fring in an ipod touch 1g using 2.2. OS 2.2 did seem to open the audio in circuits in the docking portl Just got a Macally ivoiceIII to work with my touch. Set up Fring for SIP and Skype and also installed the "Notes2Self" app from the appstore. Have made some successful calls. The test calls to Fring and Skype always work but other calls to a phone have been unreliable. Trying to work out the bugs. Sometimes the earphones will not work when the mic is plugged in with Fring. Seems to work when you plug the mic in first then the earphones. Macally also makes a combo ivoice Pro which is both a mic and speaker built in to one housing using the dock only, so that might not be a problem. Notes2Self works flawlessly and the audio quality is really good. Files are large (30sec of audio was over 1MB). Nice app that allows you to save and, or email your note. Can't believe this really works. Will post further info as I continue to experiment. Wonder if the old touchmods mic now works with unjailbroken touch with 2.2?

Does anyone know if the audio input pin still exists in the 2G model? Should we be expecting dock-connecting mics for the 2G as well? I could see some advantages to this over a mic connected to the headphone jack.

Don't know if this has been replied...

I got a 1st generation iPod Touch, Not jail broken. I ordered this MacAlly Microphone from amazon. And it works pretty good. Especially that program called Voxie. I do use fring to skype out or SIP out and it works alright. I don't know if it's my wireless net connection but it doesn't have a very consistent connection. And I was only able to use within my own ISP and doesn't appear to really work with like free cafe wifi areas. I would use the Microphone along with my headphones to do the calling, but it seems to suck up a lot of battery power when talking on the fring app. I use it occasionally. But, the recording does work well either line in or using the mic on this device. Records like a real tape recorder kind of deal. I hope it helps. Here are two links for you to look at:

For the record that works on 1st Gen iPod Touch without having to do jailbreaking to use this. And just to warn you, it's not very strong speaker so you may NOT be able to hear very loud on it. So better to hook it up onto a speaker or head phone still.
