What's the best web hosting for iWeb?
I want to register my own domain (not a mobileme address) but which is the best when using iWeb?
I'd love to know what you all use and would even love to see some good iWeb examples.... Thanks all. |

For example - fasthosts.co.uk, will that work with a Mac? It seems to talk about Windows a lot!

iWeb, if I'm not mistaken, will auto-publish only to MobileMe websites. You can off course export your site to your hard drive and then upload it to any web server you choose. However, you need to republish the entire site every time you make changes (such as a new blog post). Beyond that the hosting is agnostic. You can use any web host and it will accept iWeb sites.

Here's an example of what I've mentioned. Email this guy and ask him what he has done (he's a Macworld author and has done a lot of research on iWeb)

You can use MobileMe and domains. I have jonshipman.com through GoDaddy and host on MobileMe.
$99 a year is equal to $8.25 a month and you get 20GB Godaddy - 10GB is $4.25/mo So it is comparable in price. Then again, GD does offer 150GB for $5.94/mo so it's all relative. MobileMe does give you all your syncing which isn't included on GD. Though with a little work, Google can replace all your MobileMe syncing needs. You can even tie your GD email to Gmail and use their interface.

I've signed up to the MobileMe trial and, when visiting my highly simple test website find it painfully slow, so don't think I'll bother with MM at all.

I guess these sites here will tell you all you need to know:
http://iwebfaq.org/site/iWeb_Folder_FTP.html (Publishing to a server other than MobileMe) http://iwebfaq.org/site/iWeb_Domains.html (using Personal domains with MobileMe) I personally would not recommend you to use MobileMe since it's very slow and lacks of useful things like MySQL Databases and PHP support (for Forums, Guestbook, Wikis, Wordpress Blogs). |

MacAce
I use MacAce.net in the UK. Great service all round, you can't go wrong with them. I pay about £4 per month, which is higher than some others but the support I get by phone and email is impeccible.

I personally use Goldpuma to host my webite designed with iweb. They have a really great offer for hosting & I have used them for over 3 yrs now, and have never had a single problem with them.
This web hosting provider is found at: http://www.goldpuma.com I've purchased their economic web hosting plan for $3.99 /month.They accept monthly payments, so you can test their quality before paying the whole yearly payment. Last edited by davidmamal; Jul 1, 2010 at 07:47 PM. |

You can use any web host to host your webite designed with iWeb. All web hosting plans are compatible with iWeb.
In spite of this, you should know that there are some small differences among different versions of iWeb when uploading your website. If you don’t know these differences you may have some problems when getting your website online with any web host. Take a look at: http://www.threehosts.com/publish/iweb.html There you can find short video tutorials to learn how to use FTP of a web host to upload your website correctly. You only need to choose the version of iWeb used for creating your website to watch the related video tutorial. |

I used to use a web host but now I just host my own site after building my Linux server and use DYNdns to rent a domain name it's a lot cheaper that way I went from 12 bucks a month for hosting to 3.75 a month for the domain forwarding to my IP and I don't have to worry about as many restrictions concerning my content. I probably invested about 100 bucks in the hardware but it pays for itself in the long run. Its not very difficult if you have a good ISP that has a very large monthly upload limit--My home internet service can handle about 100 times what kind of traffic my site gets.

Best iWeb hosting provider
Tips to choose a reliable iWeb hosting:
1- One of the biggest misconceptions for Mac users is that you have to select the same operating system for your hosting account that you use on your own computer. This is simply not true. In other words, you can select Linux for your hosting account if you currently use Windows or Mac operating systems on your own computer. 2- Don't purchase any Godaddy's packages. Many Mac users have some problems with their hosting services, however, Godaddy is a good place to register domain names. 3- There are several good services to host your website designed with iWeb. One of the most recommended iWeb hosting services is BH Hosting. They are perfect for hosting iWeb websites. 4- MobileMe is too expensive. It is expensive because all Apple products are expensive. You just have to expect a brand tax as the price of doing business with Apple.

MacMate mobileme alternative
Here's a replacement for mobileme iWeb hosting that's worth a look:
www.macmate.me It's from MacAce, who seem to be a pretty good Mac ISP from the looks of it.... |

iWeb off MobileMe
Coming right on to the procrastinators bandwagon here..... I have just uploaded my iWeb site to fatcow.com. They have a terrific deal right now for mobile me switchers $59@yr plus free domain and unlimited sites. one HUGE problem, it did not transfer my HTML snippets and all my advertisers are now unable to be listed. Am trying to find a simple solution, and the techs there say there isn't one (that is getting a tech who doesn't give you all the directions backwards!) Anyone have any suggestions? I also have 30 day free trial, so would be willing to switch servers if they can fully capacitate iWeb

The only host that has actively supported iWeb from the beginning and knows all about its inner workings (plus make the best free SEO tool) is RAGE Software. www.ragesw.com/webhosting.php is the place to go and their pricing is as good or better than anything offered by fat cow or GoDaddy. (You're also not thrown on a busy server so your site loads super fast, which is a top 3 SEO requirement for Google) |

Thnx mrl14, I have gone to check with them, and they are seeming to be very compatible, yet, they don't offer phone support, only chat & email. They DO offer full support for iWb and my affiliate links worked in the html snippets. But they are also much more expensive. Can only get chaeper if you pay for 3 years in advance and no free web domain.
But THANKS, it's a good option. |
