Well, I am running quite an old game (Desperados 2: Cooper's Revenge) on my early 2008 MBP (2.5ghz, 2gb RAM, 512MB VRAM). The MBP gets pretty hot. Which program should I use in windows to check my current system temperature? Also, what would be the 'Safe' temperature to be on? Any ways of controlling it?

search forums lots of posts on temps but from what i know....

no good temp app in windows... use istat/istatpro in osx..... if u want to know a general idea you can game an hour in windows then boot osx and check temps right away

for fan control use smcfancontrol....its an osx app so set fans in osx then reboot into windows and settings will stay

safe temps everyone argues this....i dont know mbp design well but hd is weakest for temps

If it gets too hot to the point where it would harm the computer, it'll shut down automatically.

However, Apple's drivers for Windows are HORRIBLE. I would go as far as to say that apple computers can not run Windows, they're that bad. So if Windows runs OK and your only problem is that it's hot, consider yourself lucky!

I run boot camp with my new MBP. Default drivers that came with the leopard install disk. Everything runs smooth and fine.

yes im not sure what thejadedmonkey means windows runs fine just like a "windows machine"...in fact id say better honestly...my imac is the best vista machine i have used so far

and yes macs will shutdown automatically when you get to a partic heat

but its not all or nothing.... high temps lower lifespan of hds again many threads on this if u r interesting

if u sell and upgrade your mac every year or two its no problem but if u want internal hd to last 3-5 years yes u should watch temps thats not coz apple is bad design or anything its just what it is

can a MBP adjust fan speeds automatically without applications?

yes and it does

we r talking about macs running windows OS

for no good reason (?) macs running windows dont do fan control properly/well/something

again 4 normal using i dont think u need to think about temps etc at all

its only if u use windows a lot and game a lot (or other heavy apps for long times) and you want your hd to last many years

(i think gpu and cpu are fine coz their max temps are very high)

otherwise ignore all posts about temps :)

I'd definitely recommend Speedfan.
Temps can be ahuge concern especially in windows, when its running under a different environment and handling of the firmware/hardware/software etc.

The bootcamp drivers should be fine.
Id get the latest graphics drivers from nVidia on their website.

I'd also recommend these great and free utilities for monitoring the harddrive under windows:

Keep it all running and operating smoothly and optimal

oh yes ok i forgot about inputremapper ....it does same as smcfancontrol plus other things....it is really for mbp but it works on some/all(?) other macs too.....i only want fan control and on an imac so smcfancontrol works for me....

about speedfan.....from what i read it does NOT work at least on all macs to control all fans....you can try it and see if it works ok 4 u......if anyone knows speedfan definitely works properly say on imac under vista32 please say!
