error code-61

I am trying to transfer all my music over to another hard drive
and everytime that i try, i get "error code-61" about 1/4 to 1/2 through it

I tried copying to a different hdd.. same problem

So I researched it, turns out its a permissions problem.


When I try to run Disk Utility on the drive with the music it does not allow me to verify or repair the disk.

What do I do next? I was thinking about trying to do the transfer in windows.
 
Its always handy to have something like Diskwarrior, can correct things like that.

otherwise run the Repair disk and Repair permissions straight from your Leopard DVD

what do i do once i put the leopard dvd in?
i dont see anything for repair disk or permissions

Also, I ran the leopard installer and tried using disk utilities from there, same out come

it wont let me choose repair or verify

you have to boot from the disc by holding C at start up.

Yeah, I did that. Same results.
I am doing the transfer on my PC machine running xp and well its doing fine so far!

first time os x let me down :(

Then you have a bad install and really corrupt directory.


id do a complete new install of Leopard.
otherwise if that doesnt help, then your harddrive is damaged itself.

if you have windows on your machine use HDtune and HDtach to determine if it might be a corrupted harddrive.

The transfer worked first time around on my xp machine.

I dont think I have a bad install, my music files are on an external drive not my boot drive. Also, I don't think I'd get a permissions error if there was a corrupt directory.
I have used the external drive on my xp mahcine for a long time now and the first issue was when putting it on os x for this transfer. I'm going to try and get disk warrior to tell me what the problem was.

Well I am frankly confused as to what drive you wish to diagnose with Disk Warrior since you mentioned one source drive and two destination drives in your original post, I did want to throw one note in so you don't wind up wasting money if my suspicions are correct as to which it is. If it is a NTFS formatted PC drive (as I suspect since Disk Utility will not verify or repair NTFS disks and you were having problems of that nature AND you were using one of the disks with your PC) Disk Warrior will give you no joy since it will only work on Mac formatted disks. To quote from their system requirements:
System Requirements
DiskWarrior 4 supports any locally connected Mac OS Standard (HFS) or Mac OS Extended (HFS Plus) disk including RAID volumes, journaled disks, case-sensitive disks, FileVaults, Time Machine backups and iPods.
