Where do all the last-gen MacBooks go?

Where does Apple send all of the old macbooks and how can I buy one? I noticed they sell last-gens on their website in the refurbished section, but only select models.

the refurbs come and go - there, then gone, then back - i believe the old stock goes on sale as refurb even if its brand new - the refurbished apple store stuff has very good rep.
