Blackbook Makes start up chime, then screens flashes, then off.

Just like the title. My wife's macbook will make a start up chime, flash a quick white screen, and then turn off. It then proceeds to flash the OSX strarting up screen, and goes off. Thats it. I hold the power button for a few seconds and I can hear it power down.
Any suggestions??????
