App to mute certain apps.

I was wondering if there was any way to mute certain apps. In windows Vista there is a way of doing this it's built right into the OS. I know this is one of the very few things that vista actually does right. So is there an app out there that can accomplish this or any way that automator or something can do this in the OS. Thanks in advance.

Don't know if there is a way to do it inside OS X but there are some apps that should do the job:

(not free and was actually made to do much more than mute apps)

(not more supported, for PPC only)

(haven't tried it myself)
