iMac Problems

My friend just purchased a new 15 inch iMac flat panel. Whenever he plugs something in, whether it be a USB or Firewire plug, the iMac shuts down instantly. This has happened right out of the box and after we upgraded the machine to Panther. Any clues?

bizzare...

i know sometimes i bump my surge protctor with my foot and it shuts down...

this post is probably completely worhtless...

He doesn't somehow touch the power button does he? They're sensitive.
