This is a remarkably well balanced video report.

Maybe I am being overly picky, but...

1. The review implied you can download "MP3s" from other music stores and transfer them to the iPod using iTunes. The MP3 part playing on the iPod is of course correct. But the other online music stores use WMA/non-Fairplay DRM'd AAC and they can't be played on the iPod/iPod mini. (EDIT: My mistake - he said "source" and not "store".)

2. They say you can get a 20GB iPod for $50 more. Wrong. The 15GB is $50 more, but it doesn't come with the inline remote, a USB2 cable or the belt clip (I believe the mini comes with all three). (EDIT: Apparently, no inline remote is included.)

3. Why didn't they remove the mini from the dock? He is waving the mini around while it is in the dock. Why? The dock wasn't hooked up to anything.

Oh well... all I know is that if I didn't have my 20GB iPod, I would be standing in line to get a silver mini.

iPod mini arrived at 9:30 AM CST, fully one day early.

Shamefully easy to add selected playlists and iSync knew it was there automaticallyÐI'm ready to go play. No time for the video.

This product beats expectations!

They didn't imply you could buy from other music stores. They implied you could download mp3's from the P2P/file-trading networks and use them... which is true.

That is a decent report.

I got mine yesterday and love the frickin thing so much! I finally feel like I'm in the club, what with those thin white wires hanging down from my ears

Perfect for the gym, even with the supplied belt clip...and my armband is on the fedex truck for delivery today

Anyone know if those microdrives are built to stand up to jogging of the device? Thinking of getting one for my girlfriend as a workout player. And then borrowing it a lot. :-)

Just listened to it again... you're right. He said music "source" and I thought he had said music "store".

Thanks for pointing out my mistake so quickly Arn!

Pictures Please

Since I'm not near an apple store and Best Buy and Target won't put out models, could someone include pictures of the iPod mini in his/her hands and maybe a picture of the mini compared to the original iPod. I know it's small, but I just want to see what it actually looks like in hand without the cradle attached (see the video if you don't know what I'm talking about).

Thanks

They have a side by side comparison on Apple's website of how small the mini is compared to the iPod

What are you guys using to view the Video on CNET?

RealOne wants a credit card number for the trial and WinMedia Player 7.1 won't play it.

Okay I installed WinMedia Player 9 and it works fine.

Thanks for the link!

But without something like a hand to compare the overall size, it's hard for me to visualize. I wish Apple would post a video of somebody actually using the iPod mini, like that guy from MTV or maybe Bono. They did it for the original iPod.

I want to see someone using the thing correctly. With its dock connected on the guys using both hands to operate it, the iPod mini looks like a brick in their hands.

edited for clarity

If you watch the movie, they're holding the iPod mini through the whole thing. Although the dock is attached, you'll get the idea of it's size.

If Apple offered the mini iPod to .Mac subs. for $50 less, they would get a ton of new $99 subscribers, who would more than likely turn into $198, two year subscribers.

Just a thought.

I'm using the free RealPlayer. I didn't need to provide a credit card, but the link for the free version is VERY hard to find on their site. You'll find it--just keep poking around, and don't give them your cc info.

BTW, the video ran very SLOW for me--must be a lot of Mac fans bringing that cnet server down.

Found on iPodlounge.com. Photo of iPod Mini with original iPod, SE T616, and Sony UX50 (I think).

Cheers, (I have a 30gb iPod, but now that these Mini's are shipping, I find myself earily WANTING one...damn you SJ and Jonathan Ive)

I got mine today, it's much smaller than my 15gig 3rd gen. The box it came in is identical in form to the standard ipods, except its all white. When I mounted it to my AluBook 15" it saw that I had the silver version (or maybe it defaults to that?) very cool so far, sound quality is identical to the 15 gig.

Mine arrived at 10am Pacific. It is really small, and really nice. I'm hoping to go to work out tonight with it, I'm expecting my armband today as well.
