i am getting an ipod 3rd gen from a friend. no i dont mean ipod nano 3rd gen, i mean the model with the buttons under the screen, not on the click wheel. i have to replace the battery, so i was wondering if there was a way to get a color lcd into it

No? What good would it do? You can't look at photos, play video, or see your album artwork.

Because of this, the UI isn't written in color, so you would still have a monochrome interface.

Beyond all of that, the color screens had a higher pixel count, so the UI wouldn't display correctly, either.

I would think you might have a better chance at getting the rockbox guys to help you with this? After all these guys have reversed engineered rockbox on some of the devices.

I found this thread just from googling. I don't particularly want to put a color screen in my 3rd gen, however, in the 3rd Gen Rockbox themes section, there are quite a few color themes listed for it, which got me wondering if someone has done this.

Just a general curiosity more than anything. I think the white backlit B&W display gives it character, especially with the red buttons.
