Virtual box - how to format my new drive MBP

I'm going to install a 320G upgrade from 120

as a web designer I need:

more storage space

& I'd like to try Virtual box
so that I can test my site on IE6

Is it best to partition my hard drive in advance
if so how do I format the partitions
& how much space do I need to allow for a basic XP installation

if you use virtual box you dont need to partition as its an emulation program like vmware/parallels

its pretty straightforward when i last used it. just make sure you have your xp install disk ready

can I install the XP SPI disk

and then upgrade to SP2

i dont see why not. granted i have an sp2 xp disk but it should work. its not like with bootcamp and requiring sp2
