Install Mail Update 1.0 if necessary

Run Software Update. If Mail Update 1.0 appears, download and install it.

If Mail Update 1.0 does not appear, you do not need to install it. Continue to the "Update or remove plugins" section below.

I went to the Support download page and just got the disk image and installed. It let me do it, but Mail didn't restart or anything. Still at version 3.5 (930.3). Per download page on Apple Support: "you may need to install the Mail Update."

For those who got the update, how did you get to the update or how did it pop up?

No update for me but all the mail in my inbox disappears when I switch to any other folder and back to inbox. Using entourage for now.

Tiger even does the same thing for me, it drives me nuts. How hard can this seriously be, Apple?
