No, that really does redirect straight to apple.com. I'll bet that apple just trademarked iphonenano.com a long, long time ago to cover all their bases. Didn't they buy iphone.com in the late 90s/early 00s?

It happens regularly - people chancing their arm and registering domain names for possible future products/companies.
Like when 'merger' of BoA and Merrill Lynch was announced people had already bought several possible domains in the hope that the bank would buy them at an inflated price.

@OP: It's an interesting find, but I don't think that it proves anything. As others have said, it's most likely Apple covering all bases and making sure they have the rights to the name. Just in case , but who knows.
